I personally find that, when learning knew techniques, it helps to watch. That's why I watch as many videos/DVDs as possible. Of course, I love my books for follow-up.
Here's a nice YouTube video produced by glasateliermax of the Netherlands. It's a tad long, but it sure helps one see, with a little practice, how easy it can be to cut glass. Now, wait... there are a couple tricks to cutting curves that you should practice with first. So, I recommend going to YouTube and searching "stained glass" and "glass cutting" to get more pointers.
Please note the furry friend who's helping out. Kind of familiar around my studio even though I do try to keep the cats away due to the tiny glass shards that are inevitable.
